You can attend a REFRESHER course to renew your current First Aid Certificate. Students must provide evidence of currency.
Completed in conjunction with a First Aid course and additional content incorporated into the pre-course assessment, unit HLTAID012 is essential for individuals working in child care centres, schools, or any child-related setting who may be required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.
You will also cover first aid treatments, terminology, common trauma, and medical emergencies, such as basic response to asthma, anaphylaxis, bites and stings, fractures, and heart conditions. You will also complete incident documentation and debriefing to improve response, recognise psychological impacts, talk with children about their emotions, and seek help as required.
Upon successful completion of assessment(s), students will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for unit(s): HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting.
Pre-requisites
Students, including those completing a full course or refresher course, must complete a mandatory pre-course assessment before attending the face-to-face practical training and assessment session. The pre-course assessment will take approximately 1 hour and can be completed in one of three ways:
- Paper-based: Collect a printed assessment from TCC, complete it and return it to the College before your face-to-face session.
- Electronic: You will be emailed a fillable document assessment from TCC, complete it and return it to the College before your face-to-face session.
- Online: Complete the self-paced online learning and assessment before your face-to-face session. You will need access to a reliable computer, smartphone or tablet and a reliable internet connection.
If you attend the face-to-face session without having completed the pre-course assessment, you may participate in the session; however, your course cannot be successfully completed, and a Statement of Attainment cannot be issued until the assessment has been submitted and marked satisfactory.
You may remain at the College after the face-to-face session to complete the assessment or submit it within five business days. You have a maximum of 5 business days to complete and return your Pre-Course Assessment. If your Pre-Course Assessment is not returned within this time, you will be required to attend the classroom component again and submit the Pre-Course Assessment prior to attending.
Requirements
Students must be physically able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor and on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
